FREE ENTRY DURING MAY!

Update: June bookings will be available from Wednesday 1st of June.

Please enjoy your visit to Ghost Mushroom Lane free of charge from 11-31 May.
While the 2022 season got off to a strong start, a continuing dry start to autumn and unfavorable growing conditions means the mushrooms are still yet to reach their peak.
We want visitors to Ghost Mushroom Lane to see the mushrooms glowing at their best. As a result, we will be offering free site access during some weeks of May. Access Pass holders valid for 11-31 May will be automatically refunded.

Please note: Visitors must still register for a free access pass and follow marked walking trails onsite at Ghost Mushroom Lane.

Our Ranger Team will continue to assess the season and search for emerging ghost mushroom colonies.

We expect ghost mushrooms to emerge and the season to peak with the onset of colder, wetter weather in winter.

A season update will be provided in due course, with a date for the reopening of June Access Pass bookings to be advised.

June Access Pass holders please note that Ghost Mushroom Lane will remain open, with expectation the season will resume as planned from 1 June. For further information, please call our friendly Ranger Team (08) 8391 8800.

Each Access Pass includes vehicle access to the lane and entry for all passengers. Permit is valid from 4:00pm to 11:59pm on chosen date.

Ghost Mushroom Lane offers a series of walking trails that are established in pine forest just off the laneway during the annual mushroom season. The Fairy Tale Hollow, Fungi Hunter Alley, Ghostly Gully and the Neon Forest trails have been marked out in known mushroom hot-spots, helping visitors find their way in the dark. Mushroom colonies are scattered along the trails to allow multiple spots to view the fungi. The location of these walks will change throughout the season as mushroom colonies die off and others emerge. Please see our website and signage onsite for weekly updates.

The lane is located within a known mushroom breeding ground, among commercial pine forest near Glencoe just 16km from Mount Gambier. We recommend visitors bring warm clothes, sensible shoes, a torch and umbrella. For the enjoyment of others, please leave the mushrooms exactly as you found them. The chemical in the mushroom responsible for the glow can be poisonous, causing cramps and vomiting if ingested. Accidental touching is not harmful.

The Ghost Mushroom is best viewed in complete darkness. A 'how to guide' is supplied with an Access Pass to help the visitor experience. The Ghost Mushrooms have been described by visitors as ''glowing flowers'' or ''stars on the forest floor''. The fungi glow bright white to the naked eye and the green glow (seen in some photos) can be picked up by the long exposure of a camera.

  • Please observe the conditions of entry to the forest and take care while walking on uneven ground in the dark.
  • Ghost Mushroom Lane is not suitable for buses, caravans or trailers. Please contact ForestrySA for more information.
  • Visiting for the purpose of camping is not permitted at Ghost Mushroom Lane.
